Question by emelle: What does the sex chromosome (XX or XY) control in DNA apart from the sexual part?

I read that the sex chromosome (XX or XY) doesn't only control the gender and sex of the individuals DNA. What else does it control?

There are a large number of things. The ability to see colours, and the production of certain blood clotting factors, are linked to genes that can be found on the parts of the X-chromosome that do not have a Y-counterpart. This is the reason that more men than women suffer from colour blindness or haemophilia, because women need two defective genes for this, while men need only one.
